Genki Maruko — Whirl | 3D IP Character Design

Genki Maruko is an original 3D designer toy series of 20 characters. Whirl is the second member — the "sweet and cool" one.

Character

Whirl wears signature round glasses and pointy cat ears, with three cheek marks. She switches between sweet and cool — overalls make her the girl next door, motorcycle leathers make her someone else entirely.

She rides a cafe racer. The engine roar is her way of chasing freedom. We designed four looks to show her different sides:

• Street: purple-pink gradient hair, burgundy jacket, cargo shorts, boots
• Everyday: teal hair, striped tee with overalls, sneakers
• Sporty: black hair, oversized sweatshirt, knee-high socks
• Biker: blue-black hair, racing suit, leaning on a blue motorcycle

Process

We started with "sweet and cool" as the key word. Locked the glasses as the core identifier, then explored different hair colors for each outfit. Each look has different materials: leather jacket sheen, canvas overalls, soft cotton sweatshirt, functional racing fabric.

Cat ears are the series-wide signature — every character has them, but Whirl's are the sharpest and straightest, matching her attitude.
