Located in Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province, the Ancient City of Pingyao is a remarkably well-preserved architectural complex based on the layout of a Ming and Qing dynasty county seat. Renowned as a "treasure trove of ancient Chinese architecture," its highlights include the most complete ancient city walls in China; the Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas at Zhenguo Temple, a precious wooden structure ranked third among China's extant ancient buildings; Shuanglin Temple, hailed as a "treasure house of ancient Chinese polychrome sculpture" with 2,052 surviving statues from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties; and Rishengchang, the pioneering draft bank known as the "Number One Firm Under Heaven." We have created anthropomorphic IP characters based on three iconic structures: the ancient city walls (symbolizing historical guardianship), the Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas (representing religious art), and Rishengchang (embodying economic legend). Our color palette draws from the hues found in Shuanglin Temple’s sculptures—such as red sandalwood, malachite green, cinnabar red, and orpiment yellow—while the visual style blends contemporary street culture and comic-book aesthetics to create a striking contrast between the ancient and the modern, appealing to the tastes of the younger generation. Combining cultural depth with commercial potential, these IP characters can be adapted into a wide range of creative merchandise—including trendy toys, apparel, stationery, and food products—aiming to bring Pingyao’s culture to life and make it trendy, thereby establishing a new cultural calling card that resonates with modern lifestyles.
